Icon4 Health and Wellness

So this doesn't exactly make my blood boil but it is "grown-up" talk. My job started a fully funded wellness program with prizes for meeting certain goals. I use to think I was really healthy, given the military and my performance. Apparently my bad cholesterol was high and my good cholesterol was low. I'm only 22. I have a friend at work, female- 5'7" and only about 110lbs or so. Very petite and small, but her cholesterol was through the roof. Basically relates to mostly diet and exercise, two very dreaded words lol. When I say diet I don't mean something you do to get better and then go back to your ways. You have to make a conscious decision to change your way of life for the better. Here is a website that has some really good information about foods and what to eat and what to stay away from, if you are serious about changing your diet. Even if you do it one thing at a time, it will definitely help! (e.g. you drink soda/pop every day. Limiting yourself to once a week and after time get rid of it) I will update this as time goes on because I am learning all this myself as well. (Wish we had the edit post back on lol)

I go by "You only live once, enjoy it."

And yes I'm aware my cholesterol is unhealthy, although the doctor didn't say it was alarming, but would be at the current rate in about 5 years.

I was 26 when I found out I had high cholesterol. I've taken statins since I was 28. It took me two years before I was convinced I need to take action. Sometimes diet and exercise are not enough to lower/raise high bad/low good cholesterol. It's good you found out when you can actually do something about it. Good luck in your quest.

Unfortunately I am in the same boat as high cholesterol as well and I found out when I was 22, going to be 25 this year. Because I changed some of my diet and exercise that have not put me on a statin but you can only control the damage done little by little

Been on a statin and high blood pressure meds for longer than I can remember (at least seven years). If you can get it under control through diet and exercise when you are younger, you have a better chance of keeping it under control as you get older. As my father died at 48, I've been keenly aware that I could wind up the same way if I didn't do something.

I feel bad for being perfectly healthy.

Only health issue I have is that I can afford to gain a little bit of weight.

Xiaro - come to my house and I'll put some weight on you. My cooking put 40 lbs on Purgatory the first 1 or so that we were dating

Did you coat everything with lard? I was surprised when I was told me I was in good health apart from my knee, which is odd as my diet before I became a vegetarian was absolutely shocking

Elektra, I would. But I'd probably eat you out of house and home.

I'm a highly energetic person, and require a lot of food to keep up. I'm always eating to replenish my energy. Any fat I build up, I lose within a short amount of time. Even if I am not doing anything. My BMI, although low, isn't unhealthy. Only health issue I really have is that I do not produce enough body fat to maintain the amount of energy I spend on a daily basis. Which is why I eat an unusually large amount of food. One of my meals, could probably feed an entire family for a day.

But, if you're willing to spend that much on groceries on me ^^ I'm up for some free food.

I think mostly my recent lack of exercise along with the no change in my previous eating habits increased it. I have started my old exercise routine and already in about 1 week I have lost 3.3 lbs.

Watch out for the plateau periods.

My friend is a fitness trainer. He's has told me many horror stories about people trying to lose weight, hitting a plateau period, and completely undoing all the hard effort they had put into it.

If you don't know what the plateau period is, it's the period of time your body doesn't lose weight because it has gotten used to the way you live.

If you reach the point where you aren't meeting your goals, try mixing up the routine. Small change in diet or exercise can help. By changing the focus of your goal slightly, you change the fact your body has become comfortable in it's current life style, and continue on with the weight loss.

One form of diet/exercise is not enough. Just be prepared for it.

Oh yeah, I have been there before. Before I was sitting at a desk all day doing stupid computer work, I was in the Army and plenty in shape.

Hey my cholesterol was great "113" and I have 7 stents! It is all heredity. My father died at 56 from a heart attack my grandmother died from a stroke, I didn’t realize I had a problem until my brother had a mild heart attack at 56. Stents are great! Now I take 15 pills a day and crawl on the ground in DOD. I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week, do cardio and weights for an hour and fifteen minutes. O and by the way I am 58 years old.
